Shopping
Salem offers two major shopping centers: Lancaster Mall, conveniently located off Interstate 5 on one of Salem’s major commercial streets, Lancaster Drive; and Salem Center in downtown Salem. Both offer everything from large department stores like Nordstrom, Meier & Frank, The Bon, and Emporium to outlets like American Eagle, The Gap and Old Navy. Both also feature quaint, locally-owned and operated specialty stores and gift boutiques.
The Reed Opera House, also in downtown Salem, opened in 1869 with the community's first theatrical production of "The Female Gambler." Now an elegant specialty shop mall with a third floor ballroom, the Reed Opera House has retained its historic appearance and atmosphere while it serves as a unique commercial space in the heart of the city. The Reed is host to offices and numerous one-of-kind shops featuring everything from lighting and home decor to fine clothing and items hand-crafted locally. Dining choices at the Reed range from classic Greek to soups and sandwiches
