Leadership Salem
Leadership Salem is the premier opportunity to learn why Salem is such a great city. Participants develop and refine leadership skills, and create lasting bonds with other upcoming leaders. This program is recognized by businesses, employers and decision-makers as an important part of a leader’s preparation to serve in our community. Organized by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, this program has been financially supported by the sponsorship of local businesses, for over 25 years. Our mission is to expose highly motivated and interested people to the community and its issues for the purpose of preparing them to serve in volunteer leadership positions. OVERVIEW First year: Participants receive a comprehensive overview of the Salem area - its realities, opportunities and challenges. It's a unique opportunity to meet key business and government leaders and decision makers, and receive an introduction to community resources by way of tours, panels and speaker and interact in a variety of learning experiences. Each of the 10 one-day sessions focuses on a different theme: leadership, community history and culture, natural resources, business and commerce, education, legal systems, human resources, government and volunteerism. The year concludes with a community service project. Second year: Class participants assist in planning the incoming class' first year activities. This continuing engagement ensures continual program improvement.
