Education Leadership Institute Program Description

What is Education Leadership Institute (ELI)?

ELI is a high energy, five-day institute specializing in the world of business, government, and non-profit community organizations in and around the region and is designed for area educators. It was developed in 1995 and is coordinated by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Mid-Willamette Education Consortium-Chemeketa Community College (serving Marion, Polk and Yamhill Counties), Enterprise for Employment and Education and Willamette Education Services District (WESD).

What are the objectives of ELI?

  • To support participants in understanding and infusing business, political, and civic climate into their curricula thereby preparing students for the world of employment and community service.

  • To equip participants with leadership resources to take back to the education sector.

  • To identify, inform, and cultivate leaders in education.

What will participants experience at the Institute?

Meet with outstanding business leaders who will share their expertise in:

  • Team Building

  • Corporate Culture

  • Employee Qualifications

  • Ethics and Professionalism

  • Leadership Qualities

  • School to Career Opportunities

Tour businesses, community services, and government facilities. Network with other outstanding professional educators.

Is ELI for everyone?

We believe that all educators, from career counselors to teachers, will significantly benefit from and enjoy their ELI experience.

At ELI, participants will experience many activities that will serve to enhance their ability to educate and prepare students for the world of employment and community service. They will also be provided the opportunity to network with other outstanding professional educators and will be given valuable resources to take with them. Three graduate credits will be available through Portland State University as well.
